Project Overview

The Alberta Rural Renewal Stream (RRS), as a key component of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), aims to attract and retain newcomers through a community-driven approach to support local economic development and foster community growth, with priority processing at the provincial level. The basic eligibility criteria for the Rural Renewal Stream are similar to other AAIP streams; however, the critical requirement is that the target community must first apply and be designated as an approved community. Applicants must then obtain an endorsement from the local Economic Development Organization (EDO) and secure a full-time job offer from an employer in that community to be recognized as eligible candidates under the RRS.

Project Advantages

  • Affordable cost of living in welcoming rural communities
  • Apply for permanent residency directly from your home country
  • No EOI (Expression of Interest) selection and flexible review process

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Community of intended settlement must be officially designated by the Government of Alberta.
  2. An Endorsement of Candidate Letter from the designated community is mandatory before applying.
    • Applications without an endorsement letter will not be accepted.
    • The endorsement letter is valid for one year from the date of issuance.

Application Process

  1. Employer obtains a support letter from the designated community
  2. Candidate secures a job offer from an employer in that community
  3. Candidate receives an endorsement letter issued by the designated community
  4. Candidate submits an application to the AAIP through the online portal, ensuring all Rural Renewal Stream criteria are met
  5. After receiving provincial nomination, the candidate applies to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residency
  6. The Government of Canada makes the final decision on permanent residency application
    • Note: A provincial nomination does not guarantee approval of permanent residency
